What can I offer as a volunteer? You probably have more to offer than you think. Even if you are new to the field of quality, your previous experiences, work, and interests have given you a set of talents and gifts. You can use these in a variety of different ways. Still don't feel like you have anything to offer? If you have a willingness to participate and help, that's more than enough to start. About Volunteering You can contact any one of the ASQ Canada Ottawa Valley Executive Chairpersons to find out how you can volunteer and what areas of help are needed most. | Education Chair | | | If interested please contact chair@asqottawa.ca Position: Education Chair Reports to: Section Chair Membership Requirement: Full ASQ member Voting at Member Leader meetings: Yes Time Commitment required: High Meetings: Must be able to attend Executive meetings once per month, attend most Section events, and be present at at least one course session. Qualifications: none just be prepared to learn and apply your quality knowledgeDescription: This is an important and demanding role for the section. The education program is the most important revenue source for the section. The courses the section offers are certification exam review courses with a pass success rate of over 90%. The Education Chair is the coordinator of the course program and is responsible to establish the education curriculum based on the needs of the members, recruit Course Leaders, administer course registration, promote the course offerings across various channels, maintain and update the course promotional materials on the website and other channels, prepare and advise on course curriculum as required, and interface with all of the other executive positions. The Education Chair may also instruct a course as desired. Scope: Many opportunities to build and expand this portfolio Challenges: Determining the right courses to offer, ensuring that the section can provide the qualified instructor resources, promoting the course offerings to the wider community Benefits: Working in a professional team environment and meeting many new quality professionals who want to obtain certification. Satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to their success – 90% of our course participants typically pass the exams the first time the ASQ average is 60%. | Arrangements chair | | If you are interested please contact chair@asqottawa.ca | Position: Arrangements Chair Reports to: Program Chair, Section Chai rMembership Requirement: Full ASQ member or associate member Voting at Member Leader meetings: Yes only if full member Time Commitment required: Low Meetings: Must be able to attend all section program events (4 to 6 per year) Executive meetings are optional Qualifications: none just be prepared to learn and apply your quality knowledge Description: This is an important supporting role for the section. The arrangement chair is responsible to ensure that the logistics for each program meeting and others as required. This includes determining what the program requirements are, reserving the appropriate space, ensuring that all audio visual needs are in place, required signs and notices are prepared, set up the sign in desk and ensure that attendees sign in and pay if required, arrange for speaker recognition awards, arrange for the appropriate door prizes, distribute and collect feedback forms and generally support the Program Chair to ensure a successful and smooth operating event.Scope: Many opportunities to build and expand this portfolio Challenges: Being prepared to ensure that everything runs smoothly for each event hosted by the section. | Nominations Chair | | If you are interested in another position please contact chair@asqottawa.ca | This Position has been filled Position: Nomination Chair Reports to: Section Chair Membership Requirement: Full ASQ member Voting at Member Leader meetings: Yes only if full member Time Commitment required: Low – unless an election is required Meetings: Executive meetings are optional Qualifications: familiarity with the election process of the section Description: The nominations chair is an important position in the section is responsible to ensure that the annual election of officers is conducted in a fair and upright manner. The nomination chair represents the section members and ASQ to ensure that the proper procedures are followed to solicit candidates for each position ( Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Vice Chair), that the requirements are met, all section members receive the notification, and if necessary a vote of the members to elect the officers. Scope: This position is governed by strict association rules and requirements little opportunity for creativity. Challenges: Ensuring that the procedures are followed and that sufficient notification is presented to the members to enable a fair and proper election process. Members at large include past Member leaders with no specific current responsibilities, or a member who is interested in understanding more about the section management prior to making a commitment .Scope: Very broad and is at the discretion of the member Challenges: Maintaining interest or not getting too involved or not involved at all Benefits: Participating in meetings and understanding how the Section executive manage the section Recertification Units: potential units Meetings Process: The section has an approval process for each candidate includes interviews by the officers and executive, and approval by the executive. | Course Leaders | | If you are interested please contact chair@asqottawa.ca | Position: Course Leader Reports to: Education Chair, Section ChairMembership Requirement: Full ASQ member or associate memberVoting at Member Leader meetings: NoTime Commitment required: High for the duration of the course – typically course prep time, and one 3 hour evening for 8 to 10 weeks once per yearMeetings: Executive meetings are optional Qualifications: The course Leaders should have the certification of the respective courses Potential Courses Offered: CQIA, CQE, CSQE, CMQ/OE, CQA, HAACP Description: This is a rewarding and somewhat demanding role, the course leader is the primary instructor for the course and is responsible for arranging the location of the course, ensuring that the needs of the students are met, inviting guest lecturers to teach specific areas of the course, and generally ensuring that the students cover the required body of knowledge so that they can pass the exams. Scope: The course leader has full autonomy in how the material is delivered and who can assist, providing the Body of Knowledge is fully covered Challenges: Being prepared for each course and ensuring that guest lecturers are available Benefits: Meeting a group of professional and highly motivated individuals and being able to share your quality knowledge and experience with people who want to learn. Knowing that you were responsible for helping the students achieve a high pass rate. There is also a modest per diem to cover basic expenses. | ASQ Ottawa Valley Quality Journal Editor (web) | If you are interested please contact chair@asqottawa.ca | Position: ASQ Ottawa Valley Quality Journal Editor (web) Reports to: Web Content Manager Chair Section Chair Membership Requirement: Full ASQ member or Associate Member Voting at Member Leader meetings: No Time Commitment required: Open – Editor has the opportunity to grow this positionMeetings: Attendance at Executive meetings are optional Qualifications: none just be prepared to learn and apply your quality knowledge Description: The Ottawa Valley Quality Journal is a new function of our website, the editor has full autonomy to develop and grow this interesting area. The section has a lot of previous articles which have been published through the Newsletter that are available to form a nucleus for the journal. The objective is to encourage and develop local quality authors to publish articles of interest to our community. The editor is responsible to establish and develop this portfolio. Scope: Editor is limited only be the general topic – Quality, and the medium which is web based, an annual print Journal may be considered Challenges: Making this Journal a core value offering of our section that is current, has a broad range of appeal and significant contributors wanting to publish here. In addition the chair should identify potential trends, members who have not paid and members who should belong to the section but do not. IN addition the Membership chair should contact members who have dropped out or need to be contacted to understand the reason for leaving. Discretion is required and the proper approach needs to be used to retain and grow the membership. This role is highly integrated with the rest of the executive.Scope: From narrow data analysis to active membership retention and growth Challenges: Understanding the reason for turnover and not alienating the membership by being too aggressive Benefits: contributing to the growth and section value. The responsibilities include identifying and preparing all communication material and media including email, web, print and voice (radio, etc) internal and external. The communications chair must work closely with the Marketing Chair, Program chair, Section Chair plus outside organizations such as NCQC, NQI and other organizations as required. In addition this position is responsible for the monthly emails sent to the members informing them of upcoming events and news of interest. Scope: Many opportunities to build and expand this portfolio Challenges: Many that involve coordinating information, preparing the proper message, interfacing with a diverse community to promote the section’s objectives.
