Certification In Ottawa

By: Roger Chouinard, Certification Chair

There is strong interest and activity in obtaining a professional certification in a designated area, as a recognized and more frequently required qualification to perform some work, be it a job or a contract.

In today's world, where quality competition is a fact of life and the need for a work force proficient in the principles and practices of quality concepts is a central concern of many companies, certification is a mark of excellence. It demonstrates that the certified individual has the knowledge to assure quality of products and services. Over 125 companies have formally recognized ASQ certification as verification of an individual's possession of this knowledge. Certification is an investment in your career and in the future of your employer or your business providing professional services.

Certification is formal recognition by ASQ that an individual has demonstrated proficiency within and a comprehension of a specified body of knowledge at a point in time. It is peer recognition and not registration or licensure, and requires renewal through a demonstration of practice and improvement.

In reaching its 60th Anniversary in 2006, the ASQ has developed and matured a number of professional certification schemes to address a particular quality function skill level and / or sector grouping.

An increasing number of Ottawa region companies recognize, require and encourage ASQ certifications in both the hiring process and continually improving the skill levels. These companies include some of the largest and fastest growing firms in the area.
